Just finished this jig - based on similar designs I've seen around various luth forums. Looks promising but it still needs a few tweaks. The router itself is questionable, but I didn't want to permanently mount my good PC router on it. Tomorrow I'm going to put a larger bit on it and add a dust collection port. Works much better with a 1/2" straight cut bit instead of a 1/4" spiral cutter. The depth keeps slipping. I'm not sure if it's the collet or the base. What a piece of crap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

After replacing the wing nut with a lock nut and tightening everything up, it works much better. Still not 100% - there's a bit of flex somewhere that throws the cuts off. I may try a round nose bit. |

Got it dialed in now - with the straight cutter. Round nose bit not recommended. Turned out to be an engineering problem. The upright was flexing due to my downward pressure as I swung the router. I reinforced it and added a handle close to the side to minimize flexing. It works reasonably well now. I can't really say it was economical, but I can make blocks in any length and radius up to 22". |
